Eskimo Callboy – We Are The Mess (2014)

At first sight, it may seem that Eskimo Callboy is another electrocore band, But, as you know, the first impression is often deceptive. Thoughtful scenic image, full of satire and energy, make you love the band. The fresh release of the band is filled with club air and literally screams about fun. Dubstep, house and trance in a metal wrap, in conjunction with choral tunes and stunning reefs will impress you. I cannot say that guitar riffs are innovative or unique, but they are definitely catchy. I think that out We Are The Mess is a very appropriate title for this album, since the album is very much a mess. At it is filled with repetitive chugging riffs, breakdowns and synths. You have to listen to this released. Especially if you are a fan of Enter Shikari or Asking Alexandria. The new album did not disappoint me. Maybe it will be great if the band decide to release an album with their own remixes.

Eskimo Callboy is a young band that draw too much attention to itself due to the expression combined with a dance electronics in their debut album Bury Me in Vegas. And two years later, they released their new album We Are the Mess. In general, Eskimo Callboy could never boast the depth of the lyrics, but if they have previously had in the texts at least some humor by the use of sarcastic clichés, now it is just a kind of vulgarity. What can you expect from the new album? Growls, screams, grunts, deep bass. But there’s something more. I guess, this album will be perfect for the younger generation. This album also includes dance elements. Eskimo Callboy has released club hits. The band tries to reach a wider audience. But is it possible in the metalcore scene?

Speaking of the sound, it is very high quality work, but unremarkable one. And electronics, that was rather unique before, has lost its originality. So if someone like We Are The Mess, that will probably not for a long time. The main advantage of this album is extreme vocals, but here is some problems, because, as we know, singing is directly connected with the lyrics. While listening to this music, I ask myself: why are they screaming? If there’s one thing that the band make right, is that it at least seems like the band have a pretty clear vision of what they want to do – the soundtrack to your party.

The band has made almost impossible thing: two opposites (metalcore and dance music) together make beautiful sound. Despite the fact that they have not succeeded, we must appreciate their effort. It gives interesting, fresh, varied music which a fan will listen to with pleasure.
